Concrete Pumping: The Smart Solution

Despite its ancient origins, concrete is still one of the most common and useful building materials in the modern world. However, it has always taken a whole lot of time and labour to get it in place! Manual concrete pours usually mean hours of shovelling from wheelbarrows or buckets. A larger job demands many trips to transport the whole load, all while your concrete steadily gets drier and less usable.

Fortunately, you have a better option in today’s construction industry, and that’s concrete pumping! This revolutionary method removes the need for buckets and barrows, feeding concrete through a flexible pipe right to your formwork. No more messy back-and-forth—just a nice uniform pour right where you need it.

Key Benefits

Get it done quick: Concrete pumping is much faster than shovelling. Getting your concrete poured in a fraction of the time means fewer work hours and lower costs. It’s working smarter, not harder!

Fewer risks: A concrete pump lets you position your pour exactly where you want it. That means a lower risk of accidents and spillage while transporting loads. Reducing the overall job time also means less chance of dried and wasted concrete.

Better finish: A uniform mechanical pour makes it easier to achieve the nice, smooth finish you want on your final surface.

No truck access? No Problem! Tight access areas like residential backyards or gardens are no-go zones for a cement mixer truck. However, they pose no problem for a long and flexible line pump! Concrete pumping is the ideal solution for these projects.

About Southcoast Concrete Pumping

Based in Warilla, SCP is proud to be a local business offering services to Wollongong, Shellharbour and surrounding areas.

What sort of projects can SCP help with?

Our pump is suitable for small to medium projects like house and garage slabs, footings, piers, suspended floors, drives and pathways, and more. If you’re planning a residential concreting project, we’re probably exactly who you’re looking for! However, if you’re planning a big commercial job, you may need to look elsewhere.

What sort of concrete pump do we offer?

We own and operate a Jaycon T85 line (ground) pump. Rated to pump a horizontal distance of 520m, at a rate of 90m3/hr, it’s perfectly suited for residential jobs all around the South Coast region. (Especially if your work site is too tight for vehicle access!)

Do you also provide concreters?

SCP specialises in concrete pumping, rather than general concreting services. However, if you’re looking for reputable concreters in addition to our services, we can probably put you in touch with some trusted local contractors!

What is your exact service area?

We’re local to the Illawarra region, but we’ll consider jobs just about anywhere in NSW. Give us a go! If we can’t make it to your job, chances are we can suggest somebody who can.

What to Expect: Types of Concrete Pump

Want to know more about concrete pumps? Well, there are two types commonly in use today. Both types provide the same basic function: pumping wet concrete from a hopper, through a long pipe to the desired location. Both are truck-mounted for ease of transport, and both also require specialised training for safe and smooth operation.

  • Boom Pumps: These huge machines use a long arm, like a crane, to position their pours. With super powerful pumps, they can deliver concrete to great heights (and to other places that are impossible to access except from overhead.)
Boom pumps are ideal for big commercial and infrastructural projects, like high-rise buildings and bridges, but they would generally be overkill for residential projects! SCP doesn’t do jobs of this scale, so we don’t offer a boom pump service.
  • Ground Pumps (AKA Line Pumps): Instead of a boom, a ground pump uses a long, flexible hose held by the operator to direct the pour. This means they can be much more compact than boom pumps, perfect for residential projects where a massive crane arm wouldn’t be necessary (or practical!).

The machine we use at SCP is a ground/line pump—exactly what’s called for by the residential jobs we handle.
